PROFILE:
Eleni Rethymiotaki is an Associate Professor of Sociology of Law at the Law School of NKUA. She studied law (LLB) at the University of Athens and has a PhD from the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris II). She is a qualified Lawyer registered at the Athens Bar Association and admitted to the Supreme Court.
Her work focuses on the relations between law, technology and society investigating how they affect and shape each other. She has studied the ethical, political, and legal issues raised by biomedicine and bioethics as a form of governance. She has also studied the European Union as an example of post-national combination of politics and law as well as of legal pluralism due to the complex relationship between European Union’s legal order and the national ones. She has edited a collective work on feminist approaches to law and a monograph on the interaction of new legal forms of partnership and family relationships. At the moment she studies the challenges of regulating digital technology from the point of view of legal theory and the questions for democracy, the rule of law and rights posed by algorithmic governance as well as ethical issues raised by artificial intelligence and the challenges to EU’s evolving legislation. She speaks Greek (mother tongue), English, French and German (basic).
