International Distinction for the Athens School of Law in the Price Media Law Moot Court Competition

The Athens School of Law team, representing Greece in the European Regional and International Rounds of the prestigious “Price Media Law Moot Court Competition” (2025 European Rounds), held in Paris from February 5 to February 7, 2025, reached the final of the European round and ultimately qualified for the Global Rounds, which took place in Oxford from April 21 to April 25, 2025.

Notably, the team achieved an exceptional distinction for the first time in the history of the competition for our university, securing first place and the Best Memorials Award in the European Rounds, achieving a nearly perfect score, and performing impressively in the Global Rounds as well.

The Price Media Law Moot Court Competition is organized annually by the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law. This year’s case addressed highly complex legal issues concerning artificial intelligence and its intersection with the fundamental right to freedom of expression. This year’s European and Global Rounds team consisted of undergraduate students Nikoleta Misarli, Areti-Paraskevi Theiakouli, Hector Spiliopoulos, and postgraduate LLM student in International and European Law Efrosyni Koukoufilippou.  They were supervised and coached by Associate Professor of European Law Dr. Revekka-Emmanouela Papadopoulou and Associate Professor of International Law and Vice Dean of the Athens School of Law, Dr. Georgios Kyriakopoulos , with valuable assistance in the team’s preparation from undergraduate students Ioanna Lymioti and Athanasia Pateli, both members of the 2023–24 team.

The Athens School of Law team received glowing reviews from both written submissions assessors and oral round judges, with comments such as: “Great speech” ,“Great surrebuttal”, “Excellent” ,“Very good structure and arguments,” and “Very resilient.” The team was especially praised for the depth and resilience of their legal arguments and their in-depth knowledge of international law and media and information technology law.
