PROFILE
George LEKKAS is Professor of Private Law at the Law School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 1999 he obtained his PhD on Capital Markets Law in the domain of Tender Offers at the Law School of the University Paris V (René Descartes) under the supervision of Professor Alain Viandier. His Doctorat was unanimously accepted with the mention “Très Honorable avec Felicitations”.
He obtained a scholarship by Max-Planck Gesellshaft to carry out post-doc research in Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht, Hamburg, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Klaus J. Hopt, in the field of preparatory works for an EU legal framework on Takeover Bids.
He was accepted as research fellow at Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht, Hamburg, to carry out research in the field of Securities Interests in the Anglo-American Legal Systems.
He participated in the Common Core of European Private Law European Project sponsored by the EU Commission and was contributor for the Greek law on the volume “Commercial Trust in European Private Law”.
He teaches Civil Law in the graduate program of the Law School at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In the postgraduate program of the Law School at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens he teaches Banking Transactions, Securities Interests, Comparative Contract Law und Trust Law.
He has written five books and numerous scientific articles and papers in various topics of Private Law, including Banking Law, Securities Interests. He has also participated in numerous international conferences.
George LEKKAS is a member of the Athens Bar Association since 1993. He is Legal Advisor of a leading Greek Bank on Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Wealth Management. He is a Member of the Board of Director of the “Union of Civil Law”, Athens, Greece and also Member of the Board of Directors of the “Greek Society of Banking & Capital Markets Law”, Athens, Greece.
