The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School won third place at the 19th International Roman Law Moot Court competition which was hosted by the University of Trier, from March 23-27, 2026.

Our Law School was represented by students Niki Anastasopoulou, Evdokia Samara, Maria Giannakopoulou, and Angelina Polyzou. The team advanced first in the preliminaries ahead of the universities of Oxford (UK), Naples (IT), and Liège (BE), and won the third-place round against Naples. In the final round, Vienna took first place and Tübingen second.

The team prepared under the supervision of Professor Athina Dimopoulou, with valuable contributions from Assistant Professor Dimitris Karambelas, and the student coaches from previous participations, Ino Partheniadi, Gregory Kontopoulo, George Groppa, and Ioanna Stathakarou.

In this year's case, the students argued both for and against two actions: one tortious and one possessory, addressing issues of property and obligations law, along with matters of the law of persons and arbitration. Their legal basis was the Codex Justinianus, the common foundation of modern civil law worldwide.

With this year's distinction, the NKUA Law Schoolholds the top spot in total distinctions over the 19 years of the competition, followed by Oxford in second and Cambridge in third.

The next landmark 20th competition will take place in April 2027 in Kavala, organized by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School, and it will be under the auspices of the Hellenic Society for Legal History.
