Profile

Eleftheria Sp. Papagianni is a Professor of History of Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School, where she teaches History of Law and Byzantine Law at the undergraduate level and Byzantine and Postbyzantine Law at the postgraduate level. She has also taught Introduction to the Greek Legal History I & II under the Erasmus program, in German and also in Seminars in foreign Institutes and Universities (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Centre Pierre Belon, Paris; Serbian Academy of Science and Arts, Belgrad). Dr. Iuris in 1986 (Law School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Grade: Excellent). She speaks and writes fluently in Greek, French, German and English and reads italian Bibliography.

She has participated in many of the Law School’s and the University’s administrative bodies and committees. She has served many times as Director of the Department of History and Theory of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School. She has written a big number of articles, books, contributions in collective volumes, translations and reviews, in Greek, French, German, and English. She has participated in numerous national and international Congresses and Conferences, in many meetings of which she has chaired.

Ancillary Activities

Since 1981 she has been participating in the international Research Program for the republishing of Byzantine legal sources at the Frankfurt a.M.-based Göttingen Academy of Sciences (Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte). She served as Director of the Program (2008 to 2011) and since then, she is a member of its Steering Committee.

She is a member of many Greek and International scientific associations. She has served as President of the Management Board of the Greek Company (Union) of Legal Historians.
